How to achieve an Open NAT Type for a better Tekken 7 online gaming experience
Your NAT type can drastically impact your online gaming experience.
When it comes to gaming online, the NAT Type (Network Address Translation) of your console and computer is extremely important. What is NAT Type? According to Linksys, NAT Type is “the ability of a router to translate a public IP address to a private IP address and vice versa. It adds security to the network by keeping the private IP addresses hidden from the outside world.” In simple terms, the better your local network is, the better your ability to communicate with other networks.
There are three (3) levels of NAT Type: Open (NAT type 1), Moderate (NAT type 2), and Strict (NAT type 3). Most people will discover that their NAT type is type 2, and this is usually sufficient. If type 3, then, for example, your PS4 will give you a message that says “If the NAT type is type 3, the network features of the PS4 might be restricted.” If that is the case, you may want to fix this immediately.
This is extremely important when it comes to gaming. Most games you play will suggest that you have an open NAT type. Some games will even display your NAT type in-game. That’s how crucial it is. If you play Tekken 7, having NAT type 3, or maybe even type 2, may be one reason why you repeatedly have disconnections, syncing issues, or maybe even failed attempts at connecting with players in Warm-Up mode.
You think developers don’t test their games in all three NAT types before releasing a game? You better believe they do! And you should too. You want to play in the optimal network gaming environment.

Achieving an “Open” NAT Type
In order to achieve an “open” NAT type (Type 1) on your console or PC, you will need to point your router forward to certain ports. This is called port forwarding. Port forwarding (or port-mapping) is an application of network address translation (NAT; we just discussed this above) that redirects a communication request from one address and port number combination to another while the packets are traversing a network gateway, such as a router or firewall.
Portforward.com is a site dedicated to helping gamers achieve NAT type 1. They provide instructions for most popular games so that you can have the the developers ideal gaming experience.
In order to achieve the best possible online gaming experience with Tekken 7, they recommend forwarding to the ports below. Underneath the ports you will find links specific router information that will show you exactly where to put the port info.
NOTE: If you achieve a type 2 (Moderate) NAT type, then that should also work well. It is type 3 (Strict) that you do not want by any means. As well, there are known networking issues that Bandai Namco has been addressing with updates. There may still be some forthcoming. Keep these things in mind.
