Could another Capcom character join Tekken 7? Mark Religioso says ‘nothing is impossible’
Imagine another Capcom character entering the Tekken universe! Which character would you like to see?
Tekken 7 brand manager for Bandai Namco Ent., Mark Religioso, was at PAX East this weekend and The Outerhaven Productions caught up with him for what turned out to be a pretty good interview. He was asked some of the questions we’ve heard many times before, but there were two things in the interview that stood out. One was very huge.
When asked if it was possible to see another Capcom character in Tekken 7, his exact response was “The possibility is that nothing is impossible. Let’s put it that way. Nothing is impossible.” That leaves the door wide open for speculation, in my opinion. Because he could have matter-of-factly said “no, we won’t see another Capcom character in Tekken 7.” But he didn’t.
I’ve maintained that idea that we may see Blanka in Tekken 7. We already have bears. We’ve had a kangaroo and a dinosaur before, so maybe there is room for another creature or beast like Blanka? And think about it, Harada-san and Yoshinori Ono are great friends, and Ono is always carrying a miniature Blanka with him. He hasn’t shown up in Street Fighter V yet either. Imagine Blanka in Tekken 7. That would be so hype! And it would bring a whole lot of Street Fighter players over to Tekken as well, further helping out the eSports side of things. But that’s just me talking now. Don’t take Blanka to heart (or should you?).
Another great question Mark was asked was if we could ever see an exclusive North American King of the Iron Fist Tournament, or basically can we see a major Tekken 7 championship event right here in America that is not a qualifier. Mark responded by going over what they accomplished last year with the Tekken Tour, and saying “we got big things going on last year, we’ve got big things going on this year. It’s just that we can really talk about stuff that’s going on, but everyone out there listening out there in terms of eSports, we’ve got big plans.”
I certainly hope that is true, because the eSports train has taken off and Tekken will have to chase it down and jump on board if it wants to be included. We’ve got a foot in, but we need to really get inside, sit down and have a seat. It’s great that Tekken 7 will be included in Sunday finals at Evo, and Mark even said earlier in the interview that “Evo will be huge for us.” So, let’s truly hope these big plans happen.
Much more was covered as well. Check out the interview. It was a great one by the way. I really enjoyed the interviewer.
So, which Capcom character would you like to see enter the Tekken universe?
