Tekken Hall of Fame: The Top 5 Men of Tekken
In response to my article which discussed the Top 5 Most Iconic Females of Tekken, this post will feature the Top 5 Most Iconic Males of the series. However, there is a slight twist. I won’t be including members of the Mishima/Kazama families. They get enough of the spotlight already, and as we’re discussing ‘iconic characters,’ they would usually be the ‘go to’ choices. It’s time to showcase the other greats of the saga!
5. Paul Phoenix
This powerful American fighter with the impressive hair made his debut in the first installment, and has appeared in every Tekken game since. Almost always dressed in his notable red Judo outfit, Paul is known for his powerful punches and overconfident personality. Paul is most certainly one of the most notable characters from the Tekken games, although some could easily argue that his hair is slightly more iconic than him. He was almost unrecognizable in Tekken 4 when his hair was styled down!
4. Lei Wulong
The laid back, comedic nature of Lei paired with his fun and unique moveset is what makes him such a popular character in the Tekken saga. Surrounded by the seriousness of the Mishima/Kazama storylines, Lei brings some much needed comedic value to Tekken, and this is one of the main reasons he’s such a big hit with fans of the game. Lei has been included in every Tekken game since his debut in Tekken 2, and fans are eagerly awaiting his announcement for Tekken 7.
Yoshimitsu’s erratic fighting style, mixed with his eccentric, ever-changing design is what makes him one of the most interesting characters in the Tekken saga. Appearing in every major Tekken installment since the game’s debut, the sword-wielding Yoshimitsu is well received by fans, and is one of the more notable characters when it comes to fighting games.
2. Marshall Law
Marshall Law. When you think of Tekken he is one of the characters that first springs to mind, in fact it’s hard to remember that he wasn’t included as a playable character in Tekken 3 or Tekken Tag Tournament! Law’s character design, notable screams, and powerful fighting style, which is inspired by Bruce Lee, makes him instantly recognizable among fans. If you ask any longstanding Tekken fans to name the most iconic characters from the saga, they’ll more than likely mention Law!
The jaguar mask-wearing pro wrestler is one of the most iconic characters from Tekken. Even gamers who aren’t necessarily fans of Tekken will be able to recognize him, and that’s why I’ve chosen him as my number one iconic male! King (technically two separate characters donning the same name and appearance) has appeared in all Tekken games, and has remained a firm fan favorite throughout the years.
As well as his powerful moveset and instantly noticeable appearance, King’s caring nature is also what makes him such an amazing character. It’s well known that King dedicated his time and money to fund and build his own orphanage. Like with Law, if you ask any longstanding Tekken fans to name the most iconic characters, King will almost definitely be mentioned. Can you imagine a Tekken game without King? Me neither!
