The Final Battle: Life after the Mishima saga

With the announcement of Tekken 7 came the proclamation that we will finally see an end to the Mishima saga, and if that wasn’t a big enough bombshell, we later found out that Akuma of Street Fighter will play a key role in the end of the family’s story arc.

The Mishima feud has been going on since Tekken’s inception, so it’s pretty hard to imagine life without it. As we’ve been told Tekken 7 will conclude one of the main narratives of the saga, do we need to prepare ourselves for some goodbyes? Can you imagine a Tekken game without Heihachi or Kazuya? Me neither!

On top of this, with Akuma being an integral part of Tekken 7’s story, we would be right in assuming that Tekken and Street Fighter definitely share the same universe. (Street Fighter x Tekken was a non-canon installment).

Since the release of some of the key story elements for the next installment, the community have been discussing what we could expect after Tekken 7. With so many possible outcomes, it’s definitely an interesting talking point for fans across the globe.

Some of the main fan theories include:

Heihachi or Kazuya will die, either killing each other, or being killed by Akuma.

Tekken 8 will go in a completely new direction, featuring a brand new roster of characters and story.

Tekken will have a complete series reboot, with classic remastered characters returning.

Street Fighter and Tekken characters will continue to cross paths in future canon installments.

Tekken 7 will be the last installment of the saga. With the tag line ‘The Final Battle’ upon the game’s announcement, fans thought that this could indicate the end of the franchise.

Bonus theory: Jin will separate himself from the family politics and settle down with Xiaoyu.

Earlier this year Harada confirmed that Xiaoyu will marry, so fans began to speculate about who her spouse could be. Can you imagine it being anyone but Jin?!

There are endless theories currently being discussed amongst the community, and although some seem more likely than others (I can’t see Tekken 7 being the last ever Tekken game!), we’ll just have to wait until 2017 to see how the story pans out.

What are your predictions for Tekken 7 and beyond? How will life after the Mishima saga look; are you ready for the final battle?
