Anakin joins Circa eSports roster as first official Tekken player
The dawn of eSports in the world of Tekken is upon us. Today it was announced by Circa eSports, LLC that Hoa ‘Anakin’ Luu has been brought onto their roster as a Tekken player. He will actually be Circa eSports’ first official Tekken player, as no others are listed on their site.
We are very pleased to welcome @CircaAnakin as our very first Tekken player!

A recognized seasoned veteran in the worldwide Tekken community, Anakin rose to notoriety during the days of Tekken 6 and was considered by many USA’s #1 Tekken player at the time. He had several top 3 appearances at Major League Gaming between 2010 and 2012, with a 1st place finish at MLG Dallas in 2010. And in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 he made top 3 and top 8 at most major tournaments (which includes 1st at CEO 2014). Just this year he took 3rd place at Final Round 19 in both Tekken 7 (a game he hasn’t had much experience with yet), and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
In 2013 Anakin announced that he was retiring from Tekken altogether, but then he showed up at Kunmite in Tennessee in January 2014 and took 1st place. It was an on-again-off-again relationship that we imagine was due to the struggle and demands of being an pro Tekken player without sponsorship.
This has been the case for many Tekken players in the past. Compared to other fighting games, Tekken purses just weren’t as big. And when you consider travel, room and board, and food you begin to see how the expenses add up. And unless you make take first (at events that already don’t have a huge payout), you end up in the red. But thankfully times are changing. Being well-sponsored (note: well) usually takes care of all of those things so that the player can focus solely on improving their skillset and winning.
With Tekken 7 soon to release on PlayStation 4 (and possibly other platforms), you should see many other players begin to get sponsored as well. Entities are beginning to take notice and see promise in it.
Ladies and gents, Tekken is officially entering into the eSports era. Prepare.
